The Stories We Tell

I heard to a great interview with Varun Soni, the first Hindu Dean Of Religious Studies at a prestigious US University, USC. An outsider now impacting the inside. His grandfather knew Gandhi, their families spent time together. He grew up listening to these inspiring and life shaping stories. After starting in the role at USC he made a connection between his own achievement/progress to the stories he’d heard as a child. The stories we tell ourselves are important. Maybe the most important thing. The stories are often unseen; hidden maps which set he tone for what we do, subtly shaping our actions as individuals, as families, as groups, as companies. Powerful things, clearly. Maybe that's obvious. But the good thing about stories? We can create new ones if we want.
