Daddy, Why Do We Work?
“Daddy, why do we work?” is a question my then four year old asked me.
Like any good question, it made me stop and think.
Of course there are the first responses, but these are invariably wrong. First responses are easily found but likely because they hang around the surface, intending to be easily found.
Better questions prompt us to dig a little deeper, to seek out and find a second, third response. The responses not hiding in full view.
This is true in dialogue with a four year old (some of the time).
It’s true in our day-to-day business too. Whether we’re running it or working in it. We need access to good questions.
Where are we headed?
Why are we headed there?
How will we know when we’ve got there?
Why are we looking at this information?
